Gregoire calls on Rossi to denounce negative ads

SEATTLE – Today Gov. Chris Gregoire stood tall on her record of public safety and community protection in the face of misleading ads launched by the BIAW, Olympia’s most powerful special interest and Republican Dino Rossi’s biggest supporter.

“We have made great strides in protecting the community with our partners in law enforcement,” said Gov. Gregoire. “I stand behind the work we have done to make neighborhoods safer and put sex offenders behind bars.”

At today’s press conference leaders in the law enforcement community backed the governor.

“Make no mistake, today Washington state is a safer place to live because of the leadership of Gov. Gregoire,” said Ray Moss, vice president of the Washington State Patrol Troopers Association. “We have the lowest crime rate in 14 years because Gov. Gregoire has made public safety her number one priority.”

“These are sleazy attack ads by BIAW and unlike in politics, in law enforcement it is all about integrity. We are not allowed to lie,” said Bill Hanson, executive director of the Fraternal Order of Police. “Gov. Gregoire has spent over a decade making it easier for law enforcement to keep communities safe and harder for criminals to evade the law.”

“We are with Gov. Gregoire not because of her words, but because of her action and record protecting Washington state,” said Lee Reeves with the Washington Council of Police and Sheriffs.

Gov. Gregoire has been endorsed by every major organization in the law enforcement and firefighting community, including:
• Washington Council of Police & Sheriffs (WACOPS)
• Washington State Fraternal Order of Police
• WFSE/AFSCME Local 308 (which represents Community Corrections Officers)
• Law Enforcement Administrators of Washington (LAW)
• Washington State Patrol Lieutenants Association
• Washington State Patrol Troopers Association
• Washington State Association of Fire Chiefs
• Washington State Council of Firefighters

“We have hit rock bottom in this campaign and it is only June,” said Gov. Gregoire. “I call on my Republican opponent Dino Rossi to denounce the BIAW and these ads and instead run a campaign focused on good policy and the issues.”

The BIAW has already launched $500,000 worth of misleading radio ads statewide in an attempt to smear Gov. Gregoire’s record.

The Gregoire campaign has launched a new page on their website to Fight the Attacks that have been launched on Gov. Gregoire from Olympia’s most powerful special interest on behalf of Republican Dino Rossi: http://www.ChrisGregoire.com/FightTheAttacks. The campaign will update this page as often as the Republican opponent and his friends distort the record of Gov. Gregoire.
