Democratic ticket is strong from top to bottom
Posted July 22, 8:29 a.m.

I had the pleasure of spending last night at a banquet with the 31st Legislative District Democrats. Proceeds from the event went to the American Lake Veterans Golf Course, which provides rehabilitation to disabled veterans.

“First Mike” and I are very fond of this program for veterans. Started in 1932, American Lake Veterans Golf Course was originally dedicated to having disabled vets golf as part of their rehabilitation programs.

Throughout the night, I couldn’t help but think about what an amazing time it is to be a Democrat. From Barack Obama to congressional candidate Darcy Burner to local candidates, Democrats have exceptionally strong, qualified candidates for office at all levels.

Here in Washington, John Ladenburg is running for attorney general and the voters of Pierce County have the choice between two great Democratic candidates to take his spot as the county executive. I know that either Pat McCarthy or Calvin Goings would do a tremendous job for Pierce County.

I want to thank the members of the 31st Legislative District Democrats and everybody else who made the event possible. I had a wonderful time.

Best,
Chris Gregoire

Improving transportation and fighting climate change
Posted July 12, 11:01 a.m.

Gov. Chris Gregoire is getting results to improve transportation and fight global warming.

Look at the record. Under Gov. Gregoire's leadership, the state has completed 130 transportation projects and took on the challenge of making up for decades of neglect to our ferry system by building a new fleet of ferries.

At the same time, Gov. Gregoire is getting results to fight climate change.

Washington is a national leader on the issue. She pushed for strong Green Building standards, supported renewable energy like wind power, pushed for the Clean Car bill and led the charge to create 25,000 new green jobs by 2020. While others talk, Gov. Gregoire is getting results to bring about real reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

Republican Dino Rossi's mutually exclusive, false choice only reveals his lack of understanding of climate change and the "complete silliness" of his transportation plan.

He is only on the attack to hide his George Bush record.

"Pro-Rossi ads pit East against West"
Posted July 11, 9:56 a.m.

KXLY-TV's headline "Pro-Rossi ads pit East against West" says it all. This is one of more than 60 billboards in Eastern Washington which state “Don’t Let Seattle Steal This Election” right under the name of our Republican opponent.

These billboards are the latest in a long series of ads bought and paid for by the Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW), Olympia’s most powerful special interest lobbyists.

Our Republican opponent’s George Bush environmental record
Posted July 9, 5:38 p.m.

Our Republican opponent is trying to “greenwash” his image, but he can’t hide from his George Bush record on the environment.

Just like George Bush, he says “there’s still lots of debate going on” about global warming, would reverse our progress in fighting global warming and puts special interests ahead of our interests.

Republican Dino Rossi is in denial about global warming. As a state senator, he voted against fighting climate change.

Republican Dino Rossi would reverse our progress in fighting climate change. His grand idea to cut greenhouse gas emissions? Build more roads. That’s right. According to Republican Dino Rossi, more roads and more cars equal less greenhouse gas emissions.

Republican Dino Rossi puts special interests ahead of our interests. Olympia’s most powerful special interest lobbyists, the BIAW, built Republican Dino Rossi’s career from the ground up. The BIAW is opposed to fighting climate change, opposed to cleaning up Puget Sound and opposed to protecting orca whales.

As a state senator, Republican Dino Rossi supported the BIAW’s agenda 99 percent of the time. In this election, the BIAW has already spent nearly $1 million to prop up his campaign because the special interests want to reverse our progress in protecting the environment.

Republican Dino Rossi wants to convert the state’s fleet to hybrid and flex fuel vehicles. This is a good idea – which is why it was already done! Our state has the largest hybrid and fuel flex vehicle fleet in the entire nation.

Republican Dino Rossi is trying to hide his environmental record by pointing to momentary environmental accolades. But he can’t hide a 30 percent lifetime rating from the Washington Conservation Voters.

Getting results for children in foster care

Posted July 1, 6:29 p.m.

As a mother and former three-term Attorney General, Gov. Chris Gregoire knows what it takes to keep our children healthy and safe.

Gov. Gregoire is committed to protecting and helping children in foster care, so she secured more than $50 million in new funds for child welfare.

Children in foster care deserve more personal attention from case workers, so Gov. Gregoire hired 400 new case workers. The visitation rights of children in foster care have also been improved.

To help keep children in foster care safe, Gov. Gregoire sped up investigations into potential cases of serious abuse. Because of her actions, serious cases must now be investigated within 24 hours. The previous standard was 72 hours.

Despite his rhetoric, our Republican opponent’s record shows a pattern of not supporting children in foster care.

In total, he opposed more than $40 million to help children in foster care as a state senator, including $13 million in new funding to hire more child-protection workers.

Governor “Walks a Day” in home care worker’s shoes
Posted July 1, 9:58 a.m.

Each day, thousands of people in Washington are assisted in their own homes by individuals who provide home care. One of those home care workers, Rosa Vadillo, had an assistant by her side this week – Gov. Gregoire.

The governor was participating in SEIU’s national program that asks candidates running for office to spend time with one of their members and experience the life of a home care worker.

Following her time with Rosa Vadillo yesterday, she expressed the need to attract and keep people like Rosa in the profession. “The baby boom generation is aging, and most people today prefer to live in the home,” she said.
