Gregoire congratulates Barack Obama on historic night
Posted August 28, 6 p.m.

Gov. Gregoire released the following statement from the Democratic National Convention in Denver:

“Tonight marks a historic time in our country. The Democratic Party has united behind a candidate who I know will lead this country back to a place where the American Dream is a reality.

I endorsed Sen. Barack Obama in Feburary because I knew then he was the right person at the right time, and I believe even more strongly today in my decision. He sees the possibilities of the future and knows how to break down the barriers of the past. He understands that all states need a partner in Washington, D.C.

Sen. Barack Obama will bring the right kind of change to our country, the kind of change we’ve been working on in our Washington since I took office. He will work with us, not against us, as we bring healthcare to all children, fund a world-class education system and fight global climate change. He will lead our fight to renew our country’s economy.

No longer should people be fearful of what tomorrow brings. It’s time that we tell every child to dream as big as they possibly can. It’s time to eliminate hopelessness and poverty and give the great people of this nation a vision worth believing in. Barack Obama is the man to bring back hope to our great country.

You can feel the electricity in Denver. People are united. People are hopeful and, most importantly, they are ready to win. Washington state is too. Together, let’s make history in November.”

Tonight is all about standing together, as it was when Michelle Obama came to Seattle in July. A special video was created to illustrate the importance of this historic time. View “Stand with Us” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJUmGUBePsA.

Getting results in education
August 28, 5:10 p.m.

2008 SAT scores were released this week, and they included some good news for Washington! While national scores have declined in recent years, Washington’s already-high scores are staying strong, reflecting the state’s commitment to education under Gov. Gregoire. Washington students also scored well on the ACT, a popular SAT alternative.

The great news is that these Washington students have strengthened their opportunities for acceptance into colleges and apprenticeship programs. And, with ongoing investments by the state, Washington students are positioned well to keep this upward trend going.

Gov. Gregoire is helping students access higher education by increasing financial aid funding by more than $25 million, adding more than 18,000 new enrollment slots at public universities and supporting the trades.

Republican Dino Rossi supports facts in Team Gregoire’s latest ad
Posted August 6, 9:46 a.m.

The following quotes were taken from a press release issued by Republican Dino Rossi in a failed attempt to discredit the facts in a new Team Gregoire campaign ad. A closer look at his statement shows that Republican Dino Rossi agrees with every claim made in the campaign ad.

Republican Dino Rossi agrees that he voted for the gas tax

“Claim: Dino voted to raise the gas tax.”

Rossi’s “Truth: Dino Rossi did vote for the nickel package in 2003…”

Republican Dino Rossi agrees that he tried to kick 40,000 kids off healthcare – he just tries to hide how he did it with bureaucratic jargon

“Claim: He tried to cut 40,000 kids off health care.”

Rossi’s “Truth”: Rossi only tried to kick those off healthcare who “…were ineligible for the program.”

Rossi championed a change to who could receive healthcare coverage through a state program.

This change would have cut the healthcare of 40,000 kids by suddenly making them ineligible to participate in the program.

By trying to make 40,000 eligible kids suddenly ineligible for healthcare, Rossi tried to cut 40,000 kids off healthcare.

Republican Dino Rossi agrees that he tried to pass a nursing home tax – he just calls it a “bed fee”

“Claim: He passed the $2,400 tax on nursing home patients.”

Rossi’s “Truth”: Republican Dino Rossi passed “…bed fee legislation…”
